On Tuesday night last Clonard GAA were delighted to answer a SOS call from our sister club Killyon when their U14 Féile Camogie fixture against Trim had no playable venue.

St. Finian’s Park was in fine order and hosted the fixture despite the deluge of rain the previous night, much to the delight and gratitude of the Killyon club. It also turned out to be an historic occasion as according to the historians in our midst Killyon had not played in Clonard since the 1970’s.

The game itself turned out to be a tense and close affair with the wind playing a huge factor resulting in a very typical ‘game of two halves’. in the first half Trim played with the very strong wind and went in at the break leading 0-2 to 0-0. In the second half Killyon battled back and won by the minimum, 0-3 to 0-2, much to the delight of their bainisteoir Thomas Duignan, a distinguished former Clonard player himself.

They now face Na Fianna in the final on Sunday morning in Dunganny at 10am. Best of luck to all the team and management, with particular mention to the Clonard girls Chloe Duignan, Cliodhna Kavanagh, and Kirsten Massey.
